Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the program?

The course is taught to women only, age 16 and up.  There is no residency requirement, and you do not need any prior experience.

How much does it cost?

There is no fee to students at this time.  Due to the cost of materials which the Police Department provides to students, this may change in the future.

Is there any physical fitness requirement to attend?

While R.A.D. can be taught to women of almost any physical ability, you need to be aware of your physical limitations before you begin this or any other strenuous physical activity.  The officers of the West Windsor Township Police Department recommend any potential participants who are unsure of their ability to perform moderately strenuous activity to check with their doctor before registering.  In addition, participants will be required to inform the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical conditions or physical handicaps in a "wellness form" prior to participating.  Every attempt will be made to accommodate women of all fitness levels.  Pregnant women must provide written authorization to participate in rigorous physical activity from their physician in order to attend.

West Windsor is a safe town; why do I need R.A.D.?

While it is true that West Windsor Township has little violent crime, the information provided by the R.A.D. course travels with you wherever you may go; the program also provides students with general crime prevention techniques, enhances students' awareness to potential risks, and provides simple but effective self-defense options for a wide variety of situations, not just sexual assault.

When and where will the courses be held?

Course dates, times and locations will vary, and will be announced on this website or by telephone inquiry.
