Become part of the

Virtual Animal Shelter

in West Windsor Township

…adopt or foster a friendly stray…

Background:

In the past, Princeton’s SAVE and local animal rescue groups were able to accept all strays found in West Windsor Township. This is no longer feasible, due largely to West Windsor Township’s growth and the growth of the surrounding communities.

Members of our community are being asked to form what is effectively a “virtual shelter.” This shelter will operate by asking community members to foster or adopt cats, under the direction of Bettina Roed, the West Windsor Animal Control Officer.

Virtual Shelter Program:

We are seeking volunteers to foster or adopt animals that are likely to make good pets. In conjunction with this effort, volunteers are needed to transport cats, to hold adoption days, to help publicize the program as writers or speakers and to organize a fund raiser to support the care of the animals.

Our focus at the start of this program is on fostering and adopting cats, but there is an equal need for a program to adopt stray dogs. Please contact Bettina Roed (609-799-5070) if you are interested in organizing a similar program for stray dogs.

Fostering/Adoption Procedure:

1. E-mail Susan Zanzucchi (szanzucchi@att.net) with your contact information and indicate what type of animal you are interested in fostering/adopting. Alternately, print the attached form and mail it to: Susan Zanzucchi, 13 Jill Drive, Princeton Jct., NJ 08550.

2. We will contact you when a stray matching, or closely matching, your preferences is available.

3. If fostering, you will be assuming full responsibility for the care and health of the cat until we can arrange for the animal to be adopted.  If you decide to keep the cat, there will be no charge.

4. If adopting, there will be a nominal adoption fee.
