What Does This List Tell Me?

The chart below lists the officers of the West Windsor Township Police Department in descending order of their RANK and SENIORITY. 

 An officer’s RANK is, just as in the military, his or her position of responsibility within the police department.  The CHIEF OF POLICE is the highest ranking officer in the West Windsor Police Department.  The ranks of WWPD officers below the Chief, in descending order, are: Lieutenant, Sergeant and Patrolman (or Officer).  Not all departments have supervisory structures (called the “Chain of Command”) that employ all these ranks, and some larger agencies require additional levels of supervision, such as Major and Colonel. 

 An officer’s SENIORITY is simply his or her time in service or a particular rank.  In the West Windsor Police Department, the lower an officer's badge number, the longer that officer has been on the force or in a particular rank.
